Far from young and vulnerable people getting a chance at employment under the 90 day trial period legislation, research released by the Department of Labour today shows 22% of them have had the humiliating experience of being fired without cause before they have even been in the job three months.

"The CTU understands hard copies of the research have been circulated at the National Party conference today and the figures confirm large numbers of young people are being hired and fired under the law," said CTU President Helen Kelly. "Apart from the propriety of a Government document being released at a party political conference, and not yet being available to the public, the CTU understands the Government are suggesting the research shows the trial is a success."

"It might be a success for employers who are proving to have little regard for the impact arbitrary dismissals will have on the next generation of workers, but the report appears to confirm the scheme is having severe impacts on working people."

"A large majority of businesses also say they would have hired the people regardless of the 90 day legislation, and some of the reasons why employees were fired confirm that the law is simply a charter for unfair dismissal."

The CTU is still waiting for its copy of the report.

Well you Labour Party hacks

Well you Labour Party hacks had the last 10 years to secure the working class but sold us out by doing nothing! What are you going to do now ... write another letter!!! Get rid of Darrien Fenton, Lynne Pillay and any other useless ex union official that gained income and a tertiary education off the backs of workers union fees and have done absolutely nothing in return ... my point is allowing these Tory employment laws!!

So 22% lost the job But got

So 22% lost the job But got the chance), but doesn't that mean 78% of them kept it.

My guess is that my sons stat's will be in there somewhere, he did loose his job inside 3 months, but was never employed under a trial, just lost his job, because restaurants can't make a buck in this economy and are laying off staff.

Next job gave him a trial and kept him.

So I guess he is in both the 22% and 8% at the same time.

Gotta love these Stat's

And thats the "churn"

And thats the "churn" factor. Trial and error maybe??

And my son is yet to find a

And my son is yet to find a job, he would just be too glad to have a go at it for 90 days even if he lost the job afterward, at least it will be some work experience.

The current setup means employers are reluctant to give a newcomer a go in case they end up stuck with a piece of dead wood unionist.

Yeah and when he gets sacked

Yeah and when he gets sacked ... what kind of impact does that have on a young persons confidence?? Then it happens again, again, again ..... and then they give up!! Great for their confidence and next employer will be reluctant to give them ago!! Why I know that? I work with these kids that have been put through this bullshit you believe is great policy and ok to do to the young people!! Dick Head!!
