Rapidly increasing petrol prices show why National's plan to hike GST will take more money out of the pockets of many New Zealanders, says Darren Hughes
Labour is on the road during the parliamentary recess listening to the real worries of communities who see the cost of living going through the roof.
Labour's spokesperson for Transport, Darren Hughes said petrol really is an example of something that has to be available for the many, not just the few.
"In Opposition National used to rail against the cost of petrol. Now as petrol prices head north again, they want to slap higher GST on it.
"With food prices increasing and petrol prices on the up, families up and down the country are struggling to afford to put food on their tables, drive their kids to school and sport and get themselves to work.
"Families are still finding their way out of the recession - a raise in GST on top of increasing petrol prices will put more Kiwis into hardship"
