A need for clearer communication, co-ordinated responses and an understanding of the stress around unresolved claims were the outcomes of discussion overnight in Wellington between Insurance Council Members and Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker.

"Work is now underway to establish by November a customer focussed advisory service dealing with the wide range of issues arising from the earthquakes," said Mayor Parker.

This follows the announcement this week by Lumley Insurance through Westpac to offer a range of new build insurance options in a move aimed at keeping momentum around the rebuild.

"I am committed as are the members of the insurance industry to resolving all outstanding claims. However given the differing polices and land classifications we have to accept this will take time.

"Today though marks the putting in place of a targeted response mechanism to give the residents and people of Christchurch surety action is being taken and clarity as to what is being done," said Mayor Parker.
