The Maori Party has expressed their grief for two soldiers whose lives were cut short in their service to Aotearoa.

"We mourn the loss of Lance Corporal Pralli Durrer and Lance Corporal Rory Malone who lost their lives in Afghanistan" said Dr Pita Sharples, co-leader of the Maori Party.

"We share with all New Zealanders, the deep sadness at such a brutal loss of two young men, who have paid the ultimate sacrifice through the price of life".

"Lance Corporal Pralli Durrer is uri of Rakaipaaka, and so I feel a particular sadness that we in Ngati Kahungunu have lost a young leader, killed in the line of duty".

"It is times like this that we reflect on all the great soldiers over the years, soldiers who have served us proudly. Lance Corporal Pralli Durrer and Lance Corporal Rory Malone will be remembered amongst that proud history."

"While the army grieves the death of their two valiant soldiers, our thoughts are most particularly in the homes of those who are mourning a brother, a nephew, a friend, a son, a partner, a grandson - gone too soon but always remembered. Our thoughts are also with the families of those injured, as they focus on recovery and healing".

"Our deepest sympathies and aroha go out to their families at this difficult time."

"Moe mai korua, hoki ki tua o te arai, hoki ki o tupuna. Okioki atu ra."
