The Maungakiekie Community Board is unanimously calling for its Chair Bridget Graham to be appointed to the Auckland City Council to fill the seat left after the resignation of the previous councillor.
"The Auckland City Council has within its power the ability to appoint Mrs Graham as a councillor to represent the people of Maungakiekie," says Board Member Simon Randall.
"Our community deserves to have its voice heard on the big issues facing the city as it transitions to a super-city.
"Our previous councillor Peseta Sam Lotu-Liga resigned after the Auckland Council Legislation took away our chance to have a by-election and therefore my community board unanimously voted to recommend chairwoman Graham for the vacant spot on council," says Mr Randall.
"Even though the Auckland City Council is being wound up it still has a number of significant issues facing it including the final budget, The Manukau Harbour Crossing, the proposed Restoration of the Onehunga Foreshore and the transition towards the new Auckland Council.
"We ask the Auckland City Council to recognise the people of Maungakiekie and allow Bridget to represent us and our voice.
