New envoys to present their credentials

Envoys for Singapore, Australia, Brazil, India and Malaysia will present their credentials to the Governor-General, Lt Gen Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, at Government House in Wellington tomorrow (Wednesday 18 July).

The ceremony, which will include a Maori ceremonial challenge, and a military guard of honour provided by the New Zealand Army, begins at 11am.

The High Commissioner for Singapore, HE Mr Peter Chan Jer Hing, joined the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1970. Mr Chan also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Housing and Development Board and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Development. Before his current appointment, he was Singapore's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand. Mr Chan is based in Wellington.

The High Commissioner for Australia, HE Mr Michael Potts, is a career diplomat and has served in Australian posts in Port Moresby, Hanoi, Lusaka, Madrid, Vientiane, and Dar es Salaam. Mr Potts is based in Wellington.

The Ambassador of Brazil, HE Mr Eduardo Gradilone, is a career diplomat and has served in Brazilian embassies in Washington, Bogota, Paramaribo, London, the Holy See, and Tokyo. Mr Gradilone is based in Wellington.

The High Commissioner for India, HE Mr Avanindra Kumar Pandey, is a career diplomat and has had postings in Kathmandu, San Francisco , Phnom Penh , Brussels , Berlin, Male, and Sudan. Mr Pandey is based in Wellington.

The High Commissioner for Malaysia, HE Ms Rosmidah binti Zahid, is a career diplomat and has served the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia, since 1979. Before her current appointment she was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Poland. Ms Zahid is based in Wellington.
