Part of Flaxmere Park has taken on a great new look with the installation of a range of fitness equipment.
Health Hawke's Bay - Te Oranga Hawke's Bay has been working with Hastings District Council on this joint initiative which has resulted in equipment being installed which is similar to that which has proved extremely popular in Hastings Queens Square.
Health Hawke's Bay Health Chief Executive Officer Phillip Grant says "This new gym-style exercise equipment will give Flaxmere residents the opportunity to keep fit and have fun. It is well known that exercise and good nutrition are the keys to good health and that leads to a more enjoyable and productive life."
Flaxmere Councillor Jacoby Poulain says "This is great news for all those who use Flaxmere Park. Having free access to exercise equipment in a safe, pleasant environment makes it easier for people to get fit and stay fit. The new equipment will be extremely useful to those who are just thinking about starting an exercise regime or anyone who is looking for some variety in their routine."
Fellow Councillor Henare O'Keefe says "Having easy access to this exercise equipment will be a great boost as we strive to improve the health of everyone in our community. It will be a positive step towards creating a more healthy and active community. It is now up to the community to take ownership of this new equipment and ensure it is looked after and becomes part of the family focus which is being brought to the park."
The equipment includes two exercise options, giving an eight-circuit programme including weights-
based and cardiovascular activities, with instructions showing how to use the gear correctly.
The next part of the Flaxmere Park upgrade includes the construction of the Splash Pad, a new toilet block, a new carparking area and cycle and walking paths around the park.
