The Dunedin City Council is seeking events representatives for two of its sub-committees. Nominations for the appointments close at 5 pm on Friday 2 March 2012.
The selected people will assist the Community Assistance Sub-Committee (CAS) in its deliberations allocating $836,600 to a range of community groups, and the Events Assessment Sub-committee (EAS) in its deliberations allocating $400,000 to premier and major events.
EAS chairperson Cr John Bezett says "This is a rewarding committee to be involved with, offering the opportunity to contribute to the assessment and funding of DCC major events and further development of the DCC Events Policy." EAS meets once a year to deliberate on premier and major events. The Sub-committee consists of three Councillors, a DCC staff member and one person from the events sector (vacant).
The Community Assistance Sub-committee is made up of four elected Councillors, an iwi-appointed representative, two community representatives and separate events and arts representatives. Committee representatives are appointed for a three-year term and will assist the committee in making informed decisions.
The committee meets twice a year, in May and November, with usually about 100 applications for the various grants in each round. This entails a large amount of reading and evaluating applications prior to the Sub-committee meeting and assessing the recommendations made by staff.
"We fund a diverse range of events, arts, recreation, community welfare and events projects and are looking for a person to complement the knowledge and skills of the existing committee. The successful nominees will have an extensive knowledge of community groups and processes," adds Cr Jinty MacTavish, CAS Chairperson.
People can be nominated for both or just one of the committees. Nomination forms can be collected from the Customer Services Centre in the Civic Centre, or by calling DCC Community Events Co-ordinator Marilyn Anderson on 477 4000.
