New Zealand First says reports of another potential sale of the 8,000 hectares of Crafar dairy farms to foreign interests amounts to a form of treason, which must be stopped.
Rt Hon Winston Peters told a GreyPower audience in Levin today that good dairy land in the world was at a premium and New Zealand simply could not keep letting its resources fall into foreign hands.
"Needless to say Chinese interests have again targeted the Crafar farms as part of their long term campaign to build up and control food supply resources around the world.
"They know this National led government has no loyalty to its citizens and even less regard for the generations of New Zealanders still to come."
Mr Peters warned that no matter what sort of public relations spin was put on the purchase, the fact remained that a large part of New Zealand's dairy industry would be controlled from Beijing.
"And dont forget the idiotic Free Trade Agreement with China (which NZ First opposed) means that Chinese interests can start manufacturing here and bring in their own workers.
"This deal must be stopped. New Zealanders need to own their own country and we suggest the Cullen fund be used to buy the farms and lease them out to local farmers."
Mr Peters pointed out that Chinese interests were donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to National's election campaign and he said it appeared that payback time was on the horizon.
"We urge New Zealanders of all political persuasions and beliefs to fight against this sale and send a clear message to this shortsighted government," said Mr Peters.

Unfortunately selling off to the chinese is not in the best interest of any foreign nation. they take what they need and bring in their own workers. it is better to maintain land and business's and sell to the chinese not let them take over. i have lived in too many countries that had this short sightedness. And i am far from prejudence or ignorant. In fact i wouldnt sell off to any other nation, the USA is in deep water for sending all there own factories overseas. Yes i lived there too. So no, do not sell to the chinese.

This is not about racism, and you are extremely misguided if you think that is what is meant. This about protecting our heritage and our future. There will be many repercussions for selling our land, to many to mention here but for example, foreign investment drives up land prices making it harder for new Zealanders to purchase their slice, farms that have been farrmed for generations are now so over priced, this kiwi tradition is being lost. Foerign deals do involve us relenting on our once stringent boarder regulations, food exported off shore does not comply with the same manufacturing laws and hence undermines New Zealands export market......When N.Z owns no more land, where will we buy our food? without the land who are we?? I suggest you educate yourself rather than writing such remarks without at least trying to defenf your position.

Not that I agree with Mr Peters on many things but this time I agree with him fully. One thing the world never going to have enough is food it is very short-sited attitude to sell the NZ agriculture sector to foreign interest. As he predict the specially to Chinese interest they will bring Chinese labour from the main land to use in NZ one resource Chinese have in abundance of cheep labour, Look around what the Chinese government doing, in south Asia they generously giving loans to build infrastructure then they bring their own labour force to carry out the project and some countries are now finding out the imported labour workers instead of returning to China they are staying put.In from the lost PR front men section dose any one know Bill Ralston still working for that lovely Chinese Business women who ran out of money.If I am to guess Chinese gone pass the stage of lobbying some good contacts and matter of time they will get the deal done.

The problem with Key is that
The problem with Key is that he is a money-market man, used to short-term deals. He has not shown any indication of long-term planning. A dealer would sell the land and take the commission (short-term gain) whereas a 'long-term' business man would take the annual profits.
Irrespective of nationality, selling the country to foreigners is bad business. We get our chance to make this clear at election time.
