PM Philip Says Ministerial Appointments Expected In A Few Days

Newly elected Prime Minister Hon Danny Philip today said he will make Ministerial appointments in a few days.

He said the appointment process is a difficult task given the different political party ideologies in that formed his coalition group.

"It will take some tact and negotiations to actually make satisfactory appointments," Prime Minister Philip said.

The new coalition will also take at least 30 days to put together its policy framework, adding that people of the nation have waited for a very long time since the August 4 elections for the government to serve them.

"It is important government quickly give back to people of this beloved country what they deserve after waiting in suspense since the elections," Hon Philip said.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has congratulated Mr Philip on his election today as Prime Minister of Solomon Islands.

Mr Key says, "Solomon Islands is an important partner for New Zealand in the Pacific region. I look forward to working with Mr Philip to further strengthen our relationship. "Our relationship is broad and deep, and has developed over many years of close association. It includes successful initiatives such as the Recognised Seasonal Employer scheme, our development assistance programmes in key areas such as education, fisheries and transport, and our ongoing contribution to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands." New Zealand remains committed to supporting sustainable economic development in a safe, secure Solomon Islands. Mr Key also acknowledged the tenure of outgoing Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua. "Dr Sikua's government worked hard to make Solomon Islands a better place for all Solomon Islanders. I wish him and his family well for the future"

The first government caucus meeting is expected tomorrow.
