The Prime Minister is to host an event in Auckland to raise cash for Christchurch quake victims.
Mr Key told Breakfast on TV One that he would host the event at SkyCity on October 4 -- a month after the 7.1 magnitude quake -- with the aim of raising $1 million.
"We're basically going to tap up well heeled Aucklanders to try and hopefully give a million dollars to Canterbury," he said.
SkyCity was providing the venue and food and drink and an "All Black or two" may be roped in.
The Government has pledged $5m to The Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
So far $4,9m has been raised, with pledges of $5,9m taking the total to almost $11m.
Pledges have been made up of $500,000 from ASB, $431,000 from the Christchurch Mayoral Fund, plus the Government's $5m.
The Red Cross is coordinating the appeal fund.
