From next week, kerbside recycling and refuse collection days will change for around 4000 Hamilton households.

The changes, which come into effect on 1 July, are needed after city growth and changes to Hamilton's boundary led to some of the city's five refuse and recycling collection areas becoming significantly larger than others.

The newly defined collection areas were developed by Council in conjunction with contractor Transpacific Waste Management to ensure all five areas are sized for efficient and effective collection services, and that new properties that came into the city from Waikato district on 1 July last year were incorporated.

Hamilton City Council's Tim Harty said properties affected by the changes will have already received a letter from Council informing them of their new collection day, while those that have not received a letter will keep their current day.

"We ask households that have received a letter from Council to begin using their new collection day from next week," he says.

"During the transition period Transpacific Waste Management will be carrying out sweeps of areas where collection days have changed. This will enable us to monitor awareness of and compliance with the new days, educate households and collect refuse and recycling where required."

To the west of the river, the two areas affected by the changes are a section of Frankton and properties in Te Rapa along SH1 to the north of the city, while on the east side of the river it is some parts of Hamilton East, Claudelands, Harrowfield, Huntington and Rototuna, and properties that joined Hamilton from Waikato district last year.
