"The New Zealand Herald's poll on the monarchy today shows 59.6% of New Zealanders don't want Prince Charles to be their head of state" said Lewis Holden, chair of the Republican Movement. The poll asks what should happen when Queen Elizabeth's reign ends. 30.2% of those surveyed want Prince William as their next head of state, while 29.4% want a republic. "While the result is devastating for Charles, it shows the great flaw of the monarchy. No-one gets to choose who our head of state is. Even if one in three New Zealanders want Prince William as their head of state, they don't get a choice either way. Prince Charles will be our King, and the popularity of the monarchy will inevitably decline" concluded Mr Holden.
NOTES The Herald Readers' Panel poll surveyed 2,000 people and was conducted by the Nielsen Company between December 10 and 17. *When Queen Elizabeth II dies or abdicates, who should replace her as New Zealand's head of state?*
Prince Charles - 33.3 per cent Prince William - 30.2 per cent Another royal - 1 per cent NZ to be a republic - 29.4 per cent No opinion - 6 per cent

Republican Movement: Poll Shows New Zealanders Don't Want a Republic
"The New Zealand Herald's poll on the monarchy today shows 70.6% of New Zealanders don't a Republic ...."
Are you really doing a balanced report or only showing what you want.

30.2% + 33.3% + 1% = 64.5%
30.2% + 33.3% + 1% = 64.5% Want a monarch?
65% want a monarch? But only 25% want a republic, thats 90%% of the vote. 6% just don't care. Even with Sue Badfords Math (dont vote, means you vote for me), that's only 35.4% who could possibly want a replublic
But either way, republic out, Monarchy in. I wonder if Charles would have scored higher if he had visited NZ, laying Wreathes, Talking to people, and Visiting the Sick kids in hospital on the week the poll was taken?
When did any government ever get 65% approval from the public?
Time for the republicans to retire?
There are a large group of
There are a large group of children in Wellington Hospital who met a real Prince today, who I doubt very much would want a republic. Who would you have for President. Helen Clark, John Key, Mike Moore, yeah right! I can see their warm hearted approach carrying out visits to the elderly, the ill and schools right now. Most of the aspirants in New Zealand could not conduct themselves properly in such circumxtances. Sorry, We have made enough errors with the Supreme Court without going to a republic, that really would be stupid.
