Thuten Kesang, representing Friends of Tibet (NZ) and the Tibetan Community, will present a Petition to the Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Lobby Group for Tibet, Sue Kedgley and Darien Fenton, at the steps of Parliament at 12.30 pm on Thursday March 10th.
Dr Jackie Blue and other MPs will also be at the presentation of the petition. The petition requests the House of Representative to support the Middle-Way Approach proposed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to resolve the issue of Tibet and bring about stability and co-existence between the Tibetan and the Chinese peoples based on equality and mutual co-operation. 10th March is the anniversary 52nd Anniversary of the Tibetan uprising against the illegal occupation of Tibet by Peoples Republic of China.
The Tibetans and Tibet support groups observe this day worldwide, by the staging of peaceful protests outside Chinese embassies, and memorial services around the globe. "In New Zealand, the Wellington branch of Friends of Tibet (NZ) will have a vigil outside the Chinese embassy from 7- 8.30 am, and in Auckland there will be a Memorial Service at Auckland War Memorial Cenotaph at 6.30 pm to remember the 1.2 million Tibetans who lost their lives as a direct result of the Chinese Occupation of Tibet and those who are still in prison today. It will also remind the Chinese government that Tibet issue is not forgotten by the free world," said Thuten Kesang
