Yan calls for longer Airport Flyer hours

Wellington Mayoral candidate Jack Yan says the Wellington Airport Flyer bus needs to operate longer hours.

The last bus runs at 9:25 from the Airport on weeknights, despite a number of flights arriving after then.

Mr Yan believes the lack of public transport is frustrating not only for residents returning home but also for visitors to Wellington.

"It's not a good look when you arrive in Wellington and there is no public transport available from the airport.

"This is a reminder of the benefits of amalgamation. At the moment, we have a situation where the Regional Council sets the bus schedule but the City Council partly owns the Airport and funds tourism marketing. Amalgamation would see everyone singing from the same song sheet.

"If elected, I will work with all relevant parties to ensure the city has a public transport system which is reliable and accessible. We can start by getting the basics right first, such as linking up the Airport Flyer service with late night flights."
