6 August 2008 - As expected, water levels in the swollen Waikato and Waipa rivers are easing today as finer weather gives the catchments a chance to drain.

The lower Waikato River had been rising at 10cm a day on Monday and 4cm a day yesterday.

NZTA Continues Work To Restore SH35 Access North Of Ruatoria

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that SH35 just north of Ruatoria will remain closed tonight, but hopes to restore limited vehicle access on Wednesday afternoon.

The closure was put in place late on Sunday night after ongoing bad weather caused the road to subside at Kemps Hill.
