Uesi isn't a tropical cyclone anymore but change to the structure of the low pressure system does not mean that its power is weakening soon. In fact the storm is still likely to bring intense rain for a time, a burst of gales and dangerous seas.

The evening was topped with the Silver Ferns claiming the Supreme Halberg Award, the top honour on offer at the prestigious awards.

Rolleston fire now contained

A fire burning between Rolleston and Christchurch is now contained.

Crews were called to the fire on Waterholes Road, near Main South Road at 4.30 this afternoon.

It quickly spread across 40 hectares and up to 21 appliances and four helicopters worked to contain the fire.
