Passing lane on State Highway 2 to be closed

The second south-bound passing lane on State Highway 2, between Te Maunga and the Domain Road roundabout is to be permanently closed as part of the NZ Transport Agency's Tauranga Eastern Link project.

Motorists are advised to take extreme caution and drive to conditions in all areas of the Clutha District today due to ice and snow.

The worst affected are in the Clinton/Slopedown, Owaka Valley and Tapanui/West Otago areas where up to six inches of snow remains.

A cold front over the central North Island is moving northeast preceded by bands of rain. From Mt Taranaki to Tongariro National Park including the headwaters of the Whanganui River rain has turned to showers and the heavy rain warning is lifted.
