Martin Guptill makes his return to cricket this Christmas Eve joining his Aces team mates in their Burger King Super Smash showdown against the Wellington Firebirds at Eden Park Outer Oval.

With Colin Munro and Lockie Ferguson on international duty, Guptill brings some welcome experience to the side as well as his well-documented explosive hitting with the bat.

"I always love playing for Auckland and to be part of this young, dynamic Aces outfit is certainly a great way to return to cricket," Guptill says.

"The body is feeling good, I'm just looking forward to getting out there and hopefully putting some runs on the board for the boys," he says.

Auckland Aces Captain Craig Cachopa is also happy to have the BLACKCAPS opener back in the mix.

"To have someone like Gup joining us is a real bonus. He brings obvious skills with the bat but also a cool head and sounding board in the park which is very handy as skipper," Cachopa says.

The Aces are home for the pre-Christmas showdown before they take on the Firebirds again on Boxing Day at the Basin Reserve.

"The vibe is good in the team, it's great to be able to spend Christmas with family. We are hitting it well in the nets, we're ready to get back to winnings ways in the Super Smash.

The Auckland Aces take on the Wellington Firebirds tomorrow at Eden Park Outer Oval, first ball 3:10pm.
