Ranui Swanson youth football teams scooped their respective championship rounds this 2018 season with a display of local flare and dedication to celebrating their diversity.

"Our 17, 14 and 13 grade teams each one their respective championship rounds in the Northern Football Federation." Club President and 17th grade Division 1 coach Tracy Smith said. "That is a great effort from a club low on resources but high in local talent and commitment. Many of our players are from refugee and new immigrant families spanning all continents. With the right guidance, player attitude and coaching our teams are formidable."

Founded in 1979 the club is dedicated to serving the local community where the code of football and club environment can also be a teacher of many of life’s lessons.

"Football is the global beautiful game where winning means the team comes first. So, we play for each other and the club, but we also allow our local talent to shine on the field too." 13th grade coach Brendan Hoare said. "When we line up against other teams from West Auckland and the North shore, few resemble our make-up and while we acknowledge and respect the opposition, we also recognise and are proud of whom we are. In all honesty, we are like the United Nations, and our players thrive off that."

It is not all easy work though; teenagers of any code require discipline and boundaries.

"They are an amazing team that has driven me nuts, stressed me out, played remarkably and made me laugh all at the same time. I am so proud of them all and consider them family and 14th Division 1 Champions!" said team manager Toni Talijanchich. "Respect for everyone, their different cultures and beliefs are critical for our success."

The clubs prize giving will be held at Starling Park on 15 September at 1.00pm.
