Happy New Year for Dean Foxcroft?

Young Hawke’s Bay off-spinning allrounder Dean Foxcroft has already made a major impact this summer for the Central Stags; now he’s in line to add a T20 feather to his green cap after being called into the Central Stags Burger King Super Smash squad for the first time.

Foxcroft, 20, is the only change in New Plymouth as the Stags get ready for a big New Year’s Eve showdown with the Wellington Firebirds, starting at 4pm at Pukekura Park. Foxcroft comes in for Doug Bracewell who was this week named in the BLACKCAPS ODI squad to play Sri Lanka after solid all-round performances in all formats this season.

Foxcroft, a former South Africa Under 19 captain, has already scored a sensational maiden List A century - an unbeaten 120- at Eden Park Outer Oval - in The Ford Trophy in his debut summer with the Stags, as well as impressing hugely with the ball in the Stags’ Plunket Shield defence, claiming a bag of 5-67 two weeks ago in Nelson and a match haul of seven wickets for just 65 runs one week earlier on his stunning first-class debut.

Coming off a win and a loss from their first two games, the Stags are fired up to bounce back against rivals the consistent and dangerous Wellington Firebirds on New Year’s Eve.

With ticket presales strong, nother big crowd in New Plymouth is expected for the doubleheader, the Central Hinds kicking off the entertainment at 12.45pm against Wellington Blaze, followed by the Stags centre stage at 4pm. The weather is coming to the party, gates open at 11.45am, and CDCA urges spectators to prepurchase their tickets via Ticketek and get through the gate in plenty of time to avoid missing any of the action.

The Central Hinds have named an unchanged squad from the previous match in which they came within a hair’s breadth of upsetting the strong Auckland Hearts. The Hinds were without WHITE FERNS Jess Watkin for the showdown as she recovered from a virus, with Watkin now cleared to play against the Blaze tomorrow.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Ticketek or at the gate with every ticket bought online winning an instant prize as well as going into a draw for weekly prizes - and a Grand Prize draw for a $4000 trip to the Burger King Super Smash Grand Final.
