Far North rugby fans will not be disappointed next month with both the Blues and the Chiefs to field their top players during a pre-season Super Rugby match at Kaikohe’s Lindvart Park.

All Blacks from both squads will take to the field on 2 February during one of five pre-season matches scheduled ahead of the 2019 Investec Super Rugby season opener between the Chiefs and the Highlanders in Hamilton on 15 February.

The Kaikohe contest, the first Super Rugby match to be held in the town, promises a full afternoon of entertainment for rugby supporters with All Blacks reserves demonstrating fitness regimes at 1.45pm, followed by a full team warm-up. During the warm-up, the NZ Police will hold mid-field relays with "beer goggles", a display imitating the effects alcohol has on co-ordination. Finally, police dog handlers and their canine colleagues will demonstrate their skills ahead of the 3pm match kick-off.

The day also promises to be family-friendly with children four years and younger admitted for free, and $5 tickets for those aged five to 18 years. General adult admission tickets are $15 and seats in the grandstand cost $30. Gates will open at Kaikohe RFC Central Ground at midday.

For fans unable to make the Saturday game, the Blues will hold a Captain’s Run training session at 10.3am at Lindvart Park on Friday 1 February. The Captain’s Run, which is free and open to all, is an opportunity for players to meet their Northland fans.

Tickets for the pre-season Super Rugby match can be purchased online from or from any Council Service Centre or i-SITE. They are also available in Kaikohe at Percy’s Fish Shop, 74 Broadway.
