Netball New Zealand has named a 14-strong squad to control matches in the ANZ Premiership and Beko Netball League which both start in the coming weeks.

The National Umpire Squad has a mix of experienced international umpires returning along with a number of new faces including experienced Australian umpire Josh Bowring who has moved to Wellington and is selected for the first time.

NNZ National Technical Officials Manager, Garratt Williamson, said it was a busy and exciting time for the umpires as they prepare for New Zealand’s elite domestic competitions.

"We have a strong group of officials who have been working hard to ensure that they are also ready for both the ANZ Premiership and Beko Netball League," he said.

"We’re fortunate to have a number of experienced international umpires who are again included in the squad supported by a group who are building experience in a High Performance environment."

The squad also sees the return of International Talent Identified umpires Sasha McLeod and Ken Metekingi.

They gathered in Auckland last weekend to prepare for the two competitions and will be supported by umpiring coaches Fay Meiklejohn, David Pala’amo and Jan Teesdale.

Controlling games in the ANZ Premiership, which starts on February 24, and Beko League (March 2) will be the start of a big year for a handful of New Zealand umpires who have also been selected to officiate at July’s Netball World Cup in England.

Angela Armstrong-Lush, Gareth Fowler and Lisa McPhail will be joined by new squad member Bowring to umpire at the July 12-21 event.

Meiklejohn with join the quartet in Liverpool where she will act as Chair of the Umpire Appointment Panel.

"We are delighted to have these umpires represent New Zealand at Netball’s pinnacle event," Williamson said.

"Our umpires work hard to reach the top and to be involved on the world stage is certainly recognition for what they are achieving."
