Injured stars Blair Tickner and Josh Clarkson have been included in the Central Stags’ interim squad for tomorrow’s Burger King Super Smash Grand Final rematch against the Knights.

The high impact duo - who both missed yesterday’s 44-run Elimination Final win against the Auckland Aces in Auckland after having injured themselves at the same training session in Napier on Wednesday, have travelled to Hamilton this morning, and will join the squad’s final training session at Seddon Park this afternoon where Tickner’s sprained ankle and Clarkson’s groin injury will be reassessed.

Both injuries have responded well to treatment in the past 48 hours, with initial fears of more serious damage eased. The pair has been added to an interim squad of 14 with the final squad to be named following today’s 2-4PM training session.

Central Stags captain Tom Bruce says the team will prepare as normal with plenty of depth to cover all eventualities.

"We’ve got out standard protocols for players coming back from injury and it’s no different being a Burger King Super Smash Grand Final. Obviously everyone wants to play but they still have to go through the same processes, and we’ll see what happens and make a final decision after that," said Bruce this morning.

"Whatever comes to pass, we will be confident heading into the game tomorrow after having put a complete performance on the park in a must-win match against the Aces."

Assistant Coach Aldin Smith will again lead this afternoon’s training session with Head Coach Heinrich Malan rejoining the team from Christchurch, where he has been assisting the BLACKCAPS, before the Grand Final.
