A tough start for New Zealand players at the El Gouna PSA Platinum tournament in Egypt.

Both Commonwealth Games team members, Amanda Landers-Murphy and Campbell Grayson have been beaten in their first round matches at the tournament which features its main court in front of the pyramids

Rotorua’s Landers-Murphy was beaten by 27th ranked Mariam Metwally (Egypt) in four games 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4 in 29 minutes while Grayson lost to another Egyptian, Mostafa Asal ranked 41 in the world 11-6 12-10, 11-4 in a marathon 66 minute match.

Joelle King and Paul Coll who are both No.5 in the world have first round byes and will take to the court on Friday night (NZT).

King will faces Frenchwoman, Coline Aumard and Coll plays Spaniard, Borja Golan ranked 39th
