Difficult start for NZers at Manchester Squash Open

A loss for Kiwi squash No.2 Amanda Landers-Murphy at the inaugural Manchester Open PSA Silver tournament.

Landers-Murphy lost to her higher ranked opponent, England’s Emily Whitlock in her first round match 7-11, 8-11, 4-11 in 26 minutes this morning.

However, fellow Kiwi, Joelle King ranked fifth in the world and seeded second for the tournament will play her first match in the second round after a bye and will face Belgium’s Nele Gilis. The match will be played early Saturday morning (NZT).

King and Gilis, ranked 24th have played once previously with the New Zealander winning their 2017 encounter in straight games.

The event top seed is Egypt’s World No.3 and this season’s PSA World Championship finalist Nour El Tayeb.
