New Zealand Football is pleased to confirm the draw for the 2019 National Youth League (NYL).

The competition, which mirrors the ISPS Handa Premiership with the national league clubs around New Zealand in a one round format, will be contested from 5 October to 8 December.

The 10 clubs include Auckland City, Eastern Suburbs, Waitakere United, Hamilton Wanderers, Hawke’s Bay United, Wellington Phoenix, Team Wellington, Tasman United, Canterbury United and Southern United over nine match weeks.

Daniel Farrow, the Competitions and Events Director, said the National Youth League plays an important role in developing New Zealand’s young football talent.

"The National Youth League is an important stepping stone for young footballers around New Zealand," said Farrow. "We have seen what is possible from the National Youth League in a player like Sarpreet Singh. Sarpreet played for the Wellington Phoenix youth team, progressed to the ISPS Handa Premiership team and then to the first team, and is now with one of the biggest clubs in the world in Bayern Munich.

"We are looking forward to another close competition where all of the clubs will be looking to stop Auckland City doing the three-peat. They have been the dominant side in recent time."

The National Youth League will begin on 5 October with Hawke’s Bay United hosting Waitakere United at Bluewater Stadium in Napier at the same time as the Wellington Phoenix hosting Canterbury United at Memorial Park in Petone.

Auckland City successfully defended their National Youth League title in 2018 and will be looking for three titles in succession in 2019.
