Air New Zealand Cup Semifinals Confirmed

It has taken up to the second to last game of the regular season but the semifinals for the 2009 Air New Zealand Cup have been confirmed with Canterbury and Wellington to host the knock-out matches against Hawke's Bay and Southland respectively.

The results were dependent on this evening's Waikato-Auckland clash in Hamilton.

Waikato's loss to Auckland has seen them finish sixth with Hawke's Bay, on the back of a convincing win over Northland on Friday night, advancing to the playoffs.

Southland's epic Ranfurly Shield win over Canterbury on Thursday saw them secure a semifinal berth while Wellington's win over Tasman secured them second spot and a home semifinal, in which they will host the Stags next weekend.

The playoffs lineup is:

Semifinal 1: Canterbury v Hawke's Bay

Friday October 30 - 7.35 PM

AMI Stadium, Christchurch

Semifinal 2: Wellington v Southland

Saturday October 31 - 7.05 PM*

Westpac Stadium, Wellington

* Note: Earlier kick-off time to accommodate All Blacks v Wallabies Test match from Tokyo at 9.30 PM (NZT) Saturday.
