All Blacks To Raise The Curtain For Black Ferns

12 August 2009 - When the All Blacks play their match against England in November they will be raising the curtain for the World Cup champion Black Ferns to take on the England women's rugby team.

Fans will have the opportunity to see some of the best rugby players in the world from both the men's and women's game in this rare and special double header at Twickenham on November 21.

Black Ferns coach Brian Evans said playing at a famous ground like Twickenham will be a great thrill for the players.

"Twickenham has such great rugby history so it will be fantastic for the Black Ferns. Also getting the opportunity to play after the All Blacks v England Test is a great honour.

"This is also a great chance to showcase the women's game to a wider audience and really show people what world-class women's rugby look like," said Evans.

All Blacks captain Richie McCaw said it would be a special day for the All Blacks and Black Ferns - as well as the expat and travelling New Zealand fans attending on the day.

"It's going to be great having the Black Ferns play at Twickenham on the same day as us. The fans always make it a pretty special occasion there on Test day and having the Black Ferns play will add to that," said McCaw.

The England women's rugby team are formidable rivals of the Black Ferns having played them in the last two IRB Women's Rugby World Cup finals in 2002 and 2006. The Black Ferns won both those Finals - 19-9 in 2002 and 25-17 in 2006. England has also dominated European rugby for the last four years having won the Six Nations tournament four consecutive times.

The Black Ferns are playing two Tests against England and one international against England A in November as part of their build-up to the 2010 IRB Women's Rugby World Cup.
