Wellington, March 31 NZPA - New Zealand boardsailor Tom Ashley has a share of the lead in the RS:X fleet racing at the Princesa Sofia regatta in Palma de Majorca, Spain.

Ashley claimed two fifth placings in the latest races contested in strong breezes today (NZT) to improve from third overall and tie Israeli Shahar Zubari atop the leaderboard.

At the midway point after six races, Ashley and Zubari are on 21 points.

In the Laser class, all six New Zealand sailors have qualified for the gold fleet, led by Mike Bullot, who was fifth after four races.

Andy Maloney was 14th among a 131-strong field, Sam Meech 24th, Max Andrews 28th, Andrew Murdoch 31st and Josh Junior 32nd.

In the women's 470, Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie posted a second placing today to improve two places to seventh.

Laser Radial: Sara Winther - 38th (17, BFD, 33).

Women: Kate Ellingham 13th (15, 13, 12, 11, 20, 5), Jazmine Lynch 27th (30, OCS, 30, 23, 22, 12).

Finn: Matt Coutts 32nd (22, 42).
