New Zealand has been beaten by Australian in the team’s final of the 2013 Oceania Junior U19 Teams Badminton Championships at Papeete, Tahiti.

Australian proved to be too strong overall scoring a 4-1 victory against the Kiwi team who won just the men’s doubles in what was effectively a dead match.

The contest started with Australia taking the mixed doubles in straight games as Auckland’s Daniel Lee and North Harbour Rayna Philipps found Daniel Guda and Gronya Somerville too tough. While the women’s singles had Joy Lai defeating Kaitlyn Mcleod (Auckland) 21-16 21-13.

A win in the men’s singles gave the overall win to Australia as North Harbour’s Dylan Soedjasa lost to Guda in a close match in 27 minutes.

Jacob Morgan and Elliott Pike from Wellington North and Hutt Valley respectively won the men’s doubles for New Zealand in a hard fought, but straight game match to put the Kiwi team on the scoreboard, however the women’s doubles was lost in straight games to give the Australians as overall 4-1 victory.

Earlier the New Zealanders had comprehensively beaten both teams from Tahiti.

All player from the teams event now play in the individual Oceania U19 tournament at the same location.
