Wellington, Oct 2 NZPA - Zoe Brake, Penny Smith, Susan Lines, Krystle Kearns and Heather Lavery will chase a hat-trick of women's inter-provincial golf titles for Bay of Plenty next week.

The quartet formed the winning combination at Russley in 2006 and at Waiohiki last year.

The five-day tournament begins on October 7 at Tahunanui, near Nelson.

The only change has been in the top order where Smith, the long-time No 1, swaps places with fellow New Zealand representative, Brake, 16, who has played at No 2 for the last two years.

Brake and Lines were the outstanding players at last year's championship. Brake won all eight matches and the dependable Lines notched seven wins and a half at No 3.

Bay of Plenty with 17 national titles, last achieved a hat-trick from 1981-1983.

If they win the title this year, they will equal Auckland's record of 18.

The tournament's 14 teams have been split into two sections with the seven teams in each playing a round-robin.

The top two sides from each division qualify for the morning's semifinals on October 11 with the 18-hole final played in the afternoon.

The first division contains most of the fancied teams with Bay of Plenty in that pool alongside Auckland, North Harbour, champions in 2002, 2003, and 2005, and Canterbury, who were runners-up two years ago.

Waikato, the champion in 2000 and 2001 and beaten finalist in 2004, appeal as likely semifinalists from division two, and Tasman might be a surprise package especially as home teams traditionally perform better on familiar fairways and greens.
