The All Blacks are set to launch their 2012 international season in front of a huge crowd at Eden Park this Saturday, the scene of their epic Rugby World Cup victory last year.

Ticket sales for the opening Test match of the Steinlager Series against Ireland hit the 40,000 mark today - with the call going out to all rugby fans to help fill the ground.

New Zealand Rugby Union Chief Executive Steve Tew said after a longer than usual break from international rugby, the scene is set for an outstanding Steinlager Series in 2012.

"Tickets are selling fast so I urge fans to avoid being disappointed and act now to secure their seats for this great chance to see the All Blacks in action for the first time since that wonderful moment at Eden Park last October.

"New Zealanders love our rivalry and camaraderie with the Irish, and in Auckland, All Blacks v Ireland Test matches have traditionally drawn large crowds.

"Apart from their Rugby World Cup appearance last year, the Irish last played at Eden Park in 2006 in front of 44,000 people.

"The Irish bring passion and colour every time they play here, and on the back of an all-Irish European Cup final, they are not to be underestimated. We are looking forward to welcoming the Irish back to New Zealand and back to Eden Park," he said.

"Many of us well remember the carnival-like atmosphere when Ireland defeated Australia in last year's Rugby World Cup and I know many New Zealanders will want to wear both green and black.

"Together with the opportunity to see some new and experienced faces in the All Blacks, this weekend's match is a great way to launch the All Blacks 2012 international season."

With a stadium capacity of just over 46,000, there are still tickets available in various areas of the ground with prices beginning at $70 for adults and $25 for children. To purchase tickets go to www.ticketmaster.co.nz or phone 0800 111 999.

Pre-purchased match tickets or Eden Park memberships double as free transport passes on selected trains and buses to the match. Go to www.maxx.co.nz for travel details.

Meanwhile tickets for the remaining Steinlager Series Test matches against Ireland are expected to sell out. Christchurch's extra 3,300 seats with a new enlarged stand went on sale yesterday and Waikato Stadium has just 3,000 tickets for the general admission Greenzone remaining.
