Wellington, Jan 8 NZPA - Four New Zealand cricketers have made the Indian Premier League's (IPL) short list for the Twenty20 competition's latest player auction.
Former Indian Cricket League (ICL) "rebels" Shane Bond and Lou Vincent and current internationals Grant Elliott and Nathan McCullum are among the 51 players up for auction on January 19. The third edition of the IPL begins in March.
Black Caps Martin Guptill and Daryl Tuffey along with bowlers Brendon Diamanti and Ian Butler, among 96 players on the original registration list, failed to survive the cut.
Former New Zealand international Chris Cairns was among those registered but his name was pulled from the list.
New Zealanders already signed to the IPL are Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori, Jacob Oram, Scott Styris, Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor, Jesse Ryder and Kyle Mills.
The auction, in which franchises bid for players based on annual salaries, will add new players to the existing international mix of those on existing multi-year contracts.
Australia have the most players in the short list with 11. South Africa are next with nine, Sri Lanka and West Indies eight each, Pakistan seven, New Zealand four, and one each from Bangladesh, Canada, Holland and Zimbabwe.
