23 October 2008 - The Bay Of Plenty Rugby Union today announced that Peter Woods has been appointed as head coach of the Bay of Plenty Sevens team for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Woods was appointed after a comprehensive selection process. There were a number of quality applicants interested in the opportunity of leading the Bay Sevens team. Woods was selected based on his extensive 7's playing and coaching experience.

Woods has recently returned to the Bay of Plenty after the completion of a coaching appointment with Italian Heineken Cup Club, Arix Viadana. Woods has previous experience with the New Zealand Sevens program as a resource coach and in 2001 led the National team to the final of the IRB Sevens tournament in Uruguay.

"The BOPRU sees Sevens as an important part of the Unions strategic direction. Sevens has proven to be a recognized pathway for players and the BOPRU has identified Sevens as an opportunity to elevate Bay of Plenty players to both Super Rugby and National honours." stated Rugby Development Manager Mike Rogers.

Rogers continued "The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union are thrilled to have a coach of Peters quality and experience to lead our sevens program."
