3rd June 09 - There really isn’t much news to post this week on the build up to the 7th race of the season in Istanbul, Turkey.

This is mostly because teams are not allowed to test the cars on tracks between races any more.  In the past there used to be lots of mid race developments with testing and new parts being added, but now we have to wait until the actual races to see what the teams have been doing behind closed doors.

One bit of news is that Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has received the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy, which is an annual award. This award has been won by other F1 greats in the past such as Felipe Massa, Mark Webber, Kimi Raikkonen, Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher and Robert Kubica. The award is named after the Italian driver Lorenzo Bandini who was killed in the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix. Vettel received the award for his great performance last year with Toro Rosso.

In the spirit of the award, instead of being driven to the event in a limo Vettel decided to drive his 2008 Toro Rosso F1 car, which was the vehicle behind his success and the reason for the award. The 12-kilometre journey from the Italian team’s factory in Faenza to the awards gala saw him driving in and out of normal traffic, with a police escort of course.

In other news Prodrive has submitted to the FIA to join the F1 ranks for the 2010 season. They were originally going to be racing back in 2008 but due to a few legal issues they decided to put off the move until now.  As with every other team that enters F1 they have said they aren’t doing it to just fill the numbers and will be taking the venture very seriously. Well all I can say is that, no matter what, every season there will be a team that comes last and my pick is we've got our wooden spooners for next season already in the form of Prodrive!
