September 30th 2009 - Race 14's qualifying results were a bit haywire as Rubens Barrichello crashed out causing a red flag, which meant many drivers were hampered with their times. This allowed Lewis Hamilton to pick up another pole for the season which will have helped minimize the disappointment he must have been feeling considering he’s the defending world champion. Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull boosted his chances of fighting for the title coming in 2nd place and his team mate Mark Webber's 4th placing gave the Red Bull team a good chance of also fighting the overall constructor's championship.

Nico Rosberg of Williams-Toyota picked up 3rd place and Barrichello, who crashed earlier, managed a 5th place. The title leader, Jenson Button, could only manage a 12th place, which must have sent a shiver up his spine for his chances of holding onto that championship lead. But if we’ve learnt anything this season it's that anything can happen!

With the commencement of 'daylight savings' and only getting 4-5 hours sleep the night before, I wasn’t able to manage to stay up for the now 1.00am kick off for the race. However, the wonder of the internet meant the results and highlights were only a click away!

The race itself saw Hamilton, to his delight, take his pole and turn it into a victory. Again it doesn’t mean he will fight for the title but it will help ease the pain of not being able to defend it. Timo Glock of Toyota picked up 2nd place and Fernando Alonso of Renault, also an ex world champion, picked up 3rd place. Button turned his 12th into a 5th placing, which put him one place ahead of team mate, and closest title rival, Barrichello.

So Button’s extended his lead by 1 point to 15 points, but with 3 races still to go anything can happen, and probably will!
