Kauri Cliffs or Cape Kidnappers?
Kauri Cliffs is in the Far North of New Zealand and some say it’s relatively speaking, the easiest of the Big Three new additions to great golf courses in New Zealand. The other two are Cape Kidnappers and the Jack Nicklaus designed Kinloch.
It’s a three and half-hour drive from Auckland to Kauri Cliffs and doing it in one day demands devoting the whole day. Unless of course you fly in by helicopter and if you have that kind of money then you should be able to afford spending the night at the Kauri Lodge.
Cape Kidnappers is a five and a half-hour drive from Auckland however instead of going north, should you decide to head south into the heart of the North Island you’ll inevitably visit Taupo, be it for golf, fishing or sight-seeing. There’s also a spectacular bungy jump.
I call them, “The Taupo Triangle” - Taupo Centenial, Wairakei and Kinloch and are all within a short drive. With Cape Kidnappers easily done within a day from Taupo and some time left over for late-evening trout fishing back at Lake Taupo
