Golf: Coming To Kiwiland - Wonderful Wairakei

This is a recording for those who regularly read my posts. “Wairakei is the nearest thing to Gleneagles that I’ve played in the Southern Hemisphere.” However I’ve never before asked myself why do I get this glorious Gleneagles feeling?

The similarities start with both locations having excellent hotels. They’re both well- above average inland golf courses and Wairakei can handle wet conditions better than Gleneagles because it’s built on a volcanic plateau which affords wonderful drainage conditions.

However the most memorable similarity is that wonderful feeling that you/your foursome are the only folks on the golf course.

Once again I recommend that you visit Golf Club Atlas and see their review and wonderful photographs which capture a feel for this very fine golf course.

Next stop the Jack Nicklaus designed Kinloch which is only a 20 minute drive from Wairakei and therefore it’s doable to do both in one day during the summer period.
