Apart from being one of the most famous faces in rugby, Dan Carter can also be seen on billboards all over the world wearing and thereby promoting Jockey underwear.

Now comes the news that Long John Daly, the guy who was recently reported to be considering giving up the pro tour because he was broke, will be hawking underwear.

An AP report out of Dallas says, “John Daly has a new endorsement deal to go with those outrageously loud pants…Slix, an online company that began four months ago, says the two-time major major will endorse its line of Slix Closer boxer briefs. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.”

The report contains a wee photo of John seated in a locker room wearing what could be described as tight-fighting, cut-down long johns; Passion killers in contrast to Dan’s seriously sexy image.

Dan, “No worries mate” your sexy sideline business is quite secure. Especially since market research suggests a significant amount of men’s underwear is bought by the significant another in a man’s life. And passion killer short johns are a turn off for many women.

Thanks to a video clip on the Golf Channel web site, I saw Ian Poulter’s sensational wedge shot at the 15th (33rd) hole which effectively finished off Paul Casey.

Then I came across Tom Patri at golf.com who headlines his golf tip, “The Big Play: How to Hit Poulter's Soft Pitch Shot”

Here’s some excerpts.
“I don’t like the term “flop shot.” It makes people get too handsy because they think they need to make radical, flippy hand motions to get the ball airborne.”

“Instead, I call the shot an “elevated pitch.”

And the following which really caught my eye, making me think, “I’ve just gotta try this.”

“In the mid-90s, I spent time with Seve Ballesteros around a practice green and he taught me about the elevated pitch. Seve pointed out how it’s essential to do two things with the shot at address: weaken the left hand grip and open the clubface a lot. Then take a normal stance and a regular swing, but be sure to make an offensive action by accelerating the club through impact.”

Ummh! Weaken the left hand grip. But won’t that tend to make me too right-handsy?
Of course Tom does say it will require practice to perfect what Seve preaches.

Thought for the day: Golf is good for the soul.
Inspired by this from Arnold Palmer.

“Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening, and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.”
