Lydia Ko

Lydia Ko the 12-year-old lass who plays out of Pupuke shot 69 in her last round which made it three sub par rounds for this talented lass.

Lydia led the pack among the older and better-known female NZers playing in the tournament, which was won by “Evergreen Davies”. The name given to her by The Times, with the headline, “Evergreen Davies nets victory in New Zealand”. But very little additional information about the event.

No mention is made of Lydia’s great showing so it was up to the NZPA to provide more information.

“Her performance in the Ladies European Tour (LET) co-sanctioned event won widespread admiration, particularly from her playing partner today, Iben Tinning, of Denmark, and Norwegian Cecilie Lundgreen.
Tinning described the youngster as "being unbelievable already" while Lundgreen, a veteran of 11 years on the European circuit, said that "it was incredible how a 12-year-old seemed to be totally unfazed by everything that was going on around her".

Despite conditions fluctuating from calm to almost galeforce noreasterlies over the four days, Ko had three sub-par rounds in her 71, 73, 71, 69 total.
Had it not been for a cold putter last Friday she would have had all four rounds in red figures. The most remarkable was her third round 71, when she was one of only 16 players to break par in a day of carnage.”

Only one of 16, which makes me wonder how good she’ll be at 16.

I’ve just heard about two “Kiwi” lads who are on a fantastic golfing journey.

Jamie, like myself, is a Scot-Kiwi and Michael who writes on the blog, “Whilst not scottish (thank god!) I moved from Aussie to Christchurch…” - Has to be the Aussie part which accounts for his rudeness.

The two lads have set themselves the goal of  “Golf-Everyday-2010-Worldwide”

They’ve already done NZ and are now in Aussie which should appeal to the Aussie-Kiwi. And since it’s a blog the latest post comes first. So I suggest that to get a better feel for their journey. You start reading by scrolling down to the bottom of the first page and click on 14, which will bring you their first post featuring Kauri Cliffs.

Here’s an excerpt, “Kauri Cliffs has some memorable holes.  The design is tough, particularly off the back tees.  And every hole seemed like a challenge.  A number of holes looked out across Matauri Bay (which I am not poetic enough to describe so we have posted a few photos below and in our gallery).”

They are lengthy posts with a mix of golf, social events and general touristy comments.
Could be one of the NZ courses they’ve already done includes your home course. So go have a look, but be aware if there’s something about your course they don’t like they’re not shy in saying so.

Good luck on your journey, you lucky lads. And I’m still trying to work out the course in Aussie which let you play as long as you did not mention the name of the course-Must be some weird Aussie attitude I’m not aware of.

Thought for the day: From an ezine article headlined, “Golf - The Most Elitist Game in the World”
“Golf is an elitist game and the reason is not hard to fathom because it has always been played by the royalty and the corporate captains.”

Who me an elitist? Not with my Scot-Kiwi background.
And here’s the link to the two lucky lads’ blog.
