Adam Scott commenting on his new caddie said, “He's (Steve Williams) given me a lot of insight from his perspective and that's been appreciated. He's been very honest with me about what he thinks of my game. He thinks I can be as good as player as I want to be, but he's adamant that you've got to put the work in, and he sees that I am putting in the work. But he's fairly blunt in his assessment of my chipping, and I'm going to work on it."

Steve’s never been backward about coming forward with advice particularly to photographers and journalists. His ofttimes blunt manner is mentioned in Gary Van Sickle’s, ‘Adam Scott finding new life with Tiger's old caddie.’

Gary writes, ‘Could Williams be more blunt than Scott's former teacher Butch Harmon? Scott laughed that one off." It would be close. There's a lot of bluntness going on there.”

“Good shot Adam” came frequently from Steve’s lips as Adam worked his way to the top of the leader board after the third round of the Bridgestone Invitational. Aided by Steve’s local knowledge of the course.

Adam said, "I think he really understands how to manage a game well around the golf course…That was really obvious to me. He's got a few little notes in his yardage book about breaks on greens and stuff like that, so he has a great knowledge of this golf course, for sure."

Commenting on Steve’s reaction to Adam’s opening round Adam said, "He (Steve) didn't think it was a big deal to shoot 62. It was normal." And so it would appear that “Good shot Adam” will be as good as it gets to satisfy Steve at this stage of their partnership.

Stephanie Wei gives us a glimpse of Steve’s local knowledge and how the fans, if not the media, displayed support for Tiger’s ex (Caddie that is).
‘Stevie knows all the little tricks at Firestone. You know, like walking down No. 14 fairway, he zigzagged through the cart path to leave the bag on No. 15 tee (which is on the way) before cutting back through the walkway to the green. “Shortcut,” he said aloud to himself.

He might even be more popular than his current player. I sure heard a lot more cheers for Stevie than Scotty! On the 16th Adam threw a dart at the pin to tap-in range for birdie. A few fans yelled, “Nice number, Stevie!” He acknowledged the crowd, laughing.’

Quote of the Day

‘If Scott succeeds, he’ll earn $1.4 million, and traditionally, the caddie gets 10% of the purse for a win, which means Stevie will make $140,000 — more than Tiger this week.’ – Stephanie Wei
