“What to expect from Le Golf National at the Ryder Cup” writes Mark Townsend who goes on to say, “It’s not tricked up, you can see what’s in front of you and you can’t just pull out the driver and give it a rip.”

Some savvy required
Mark writes, “Instead you need a bit of savvy and you need to keep it straight as exemplified by the winners’ board that includes the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Thongchai Jaidee, Graeme McDowell and, going back to 2000, Colin Montgomerie” then hints that Le Golf National isn’t your average American PGA tour course where birdie blitzes are par for the course.
“The general summing up is that it is tough but fair with the winning score occasionally getting into double figures – this year Alex Noren’s 7-under total was good enough.”

Frightening first tee
“The European captain Thomas Bjorn described his first experience like this: “You basically have no idea what you’re doing on the 1st tee. You can’t do it quickly enough. You just want to get the thing moving. On my debut at Valderrama the fairway looked like a piece of grass two yards wide. Anyone who says they weren’t nervous on that 1st tee is lying. I hit 3-wood into the trees.” And it's said that the fiirst at Le Golf National is even more scarey.

How scared are you?
Commenting on just how frightened they were playing in the Ryder Cup, Mark writes, “Padraig Harrington, one of Bjorn’s assistants in Paris, added: “I couldn’t even see the golf ball. I was just so nervous, I couldn’t even see it.”
It will even turn men like Corey Pavin to jelly: “I can’t even describe how nervous I was. I put the tee in the ground and I went to put the ball on the tee and I realised my hand was shaking so much, I decided to just drop the ball and hope it would stay on the tee.”

Quote of the Day
"For me personally, I've played the French Open for the last five years so I know the course well. It will be set up well for how we play.” - Tyrrell Hatton
