“Will Tiger Woods ever recover from this one? Can the 64-75 final-round beating that Woods took at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am be shrugged off as just another bad day, another step in the "process" that Tiger keeps talking about?”

Bill Dwyre at the L A Times was quick off the mark commenting on Tiger’s final round at Pebble Beach. And according to Bill. “In the wake of Sunday's Tiger-Phil showdown at the Pebble Beach corral, one prevailing image emerges…It is of Phil Mickelson, standing over a coffin, hammer in hand, pounding down a final nail.”

“I didn't hit it as bad as the score indicated," said Tiger. And I’d have to agree. For sure he hit a couple of sloppy shots and three-putting the final hole after two magnificent shots from tee to green, was fuel for those who say he’s finished, “Tiger Woods, golf's great finisher, no longer can finish”

One week is a long time in golf as witnessed by Kyle Stanley’s come back after his collapse. And coming into this week Phil sure wasn’t playing all that great. Come to think of it, the last time Phil was in contention in a big one, he couldn’t finish it off. But no one dared suggest he was finished after his failure at last year’s Open Championship. But there again Phil’s always been a favourite of the crowds and the media and his inability to play British link’s golf was easily forgiven and forgotten.

If Tiger should be worried then there’s another guy who needs a hard look at his “finishing” record.

Rory McIlroy who shared the halfway lead at Dubai, once again, and in recent times failed to finish off the job and found himself four shots behind Rafael Cabrera-Bello at the finish.

Here’s the link to Bill.

Quote of the Day

“As for McIlroy, he may be the top talent in the game but he's still more disappointment than dominant in winning situations.” – Mercer Baggs at the Golf Channel
