25 September 2008 - Canterbury and Crusaders winger/fullback Scott Hamilton will join the Leicester Tigers at the end of the year.

He will leave for England in November and will join the club on a two-year contract.

Hamilton will play his 71st game for Canterbury in the Air New Zealand Cup match against Hawkes Bay at AMI Stadium, Christchurch, on Saturday night.

Canterbury coach Rob Penney said: "Scott is a very important senior member of our team and we'll miss him a lot. As a player of some ability and profile, Scott is a great role model for all our players here and he's a great character to have on the field and dressing room.We wish him all the best in England with Leicester."

Hamilton played 58 times for the Crusaders, scoring 105 points (21 tries), after making his Super rugby debut against the Hurricanes in 2003. He was an important attacking threat and defender in the Crusaders' Super 12 victory in 2005 and their Super 14 victories in 2006 and this year.

He was Canterbury's leading try scorer (with six) in last year's Air New Zealand Cup competition.

The 28-year-old played two tests for the All Blacks, scoring a try in a debut victory over Argentina at Buenos Aires in June, 2006. A month later he played in the All Blacks' win against South Africa in Wellington.

A full release with more details and quotes from Hamilton will be available tomorrow. He is unavailable for comment today but should be available for interviews in person at Rugby Park, Christchurch, tomorrow afternoon.
