Who would have thought that the black caps would be 2-0 up in the Chappell-Hadlee one day international series best of five in Australia? Now, New Zealand has the chance to win the trophy at the SCG today.

The Australian cricket team are lacking in confidence and batting power after coming off second best against South Africa at home in the test and one day series.  The kiwis have got into a great position through controversial first game incident with Brad Haddin using his gloves to remove the bails in front of the wickets and with Australian side "resting" captain Ricky Ponting. There is a golden opportunity for New Zealand to close it out.

Since the Australian team have been missing Mathew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds & Glenn McGrath through retirement and changing the team to let in new blood. For the last 12 - 15 years the Australian cricket team have had significant dominance in all forms of the game. They have only just slipped down the rankings in limited over’s and are still one of the hardest teams to beat in the world.

If you listen to the commentary of Ian Healy, Ritchie Benaud, Tony Greig, Bill Lawry, Michael Slater & Adam Gilchrist you can hear the praise for the Australians to be more patient in the one day series and today Ricky Ponting has come back into the side as the experience of the new aussie side is in urgent need.  Players like Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Nathan Bracken & Mitchell Johnson need to focus along with Ricky Ponting at setting a total as they have looked ordinary at playing shots conservatively.

There are no worries of Australian cricket falling for a long time as they have so much depth and abilities in rebuilding their side with good players.  I hope that New Zealand can capitalise on this recent dip in form and commitment amongst the green and gold.

As long as the spirit of the game is upheld between our south pacific rivalry this series looks to be a good close contest and with the series extended to five games it could be a classic series to remember. Also, I am sure that the Australian team want to iron out these problems with consistency with the Ashes series & South African tour ahead.
