Injury Forces Abrams Out For Season

Wellington, March 23 NZPA - Taranaki's National Basketball League (NBL) have been dealt a grievous blow with key forward Link Abrams out for the season.

Abrams ruptured his patella tendon during the loss to Waikato last Friday last Fridays game.

He underwent surgery the next day and is now facing a lengthy rehabilitation. Abrams will be unable to walk for eight weeks it will take six months before he will be exercising again.

Abrams, 35, had not missed a match for Taranaki in the past six seasons.

"This is devastating news for both Link and the franchise and our hearts go out to him," coach Trent Adams said.

"He is a big part of what we do and those will be some big shoes to fill. I'm just gutted for Link more than anything, though."

Abrams has put some imposing numbers on the board in his six seasons with Taranaki, averaging 21.4 points and 9.8 rebounds a game.

He also holds the Taranaki scoring record with 41 points in a game on multiple occasions, and the franchise block record with seven in a game.
