Jane To Start And Masaga To Bench In Changed All Blacks Team

12 June 2009 - All Blacks fullback Cory Jane has been promoted to the All Blacks starting XV for this weekend's Iveco Series season opening Test against France in Dunedin, with Counties Manukau winger Lelia Masaga moving onto the bench, following the injury to All Blacks winger Rudi Wulf.

25-year-old Wulf landed heavily on his left shoulder at All Blacks training yesterday and All Blacks Doctor Deb Robinson said an x-ray had confirmed that he had a small fracture in his left shoulder at the top of his humerus bone.

"At this stage it means that Rudi will need up to six weeks away from rugby to recover," Dr Robinson said.

As a result, Jane will move to the starting XV while Masaga comes onto the reserves bench in the number 22 jersey.

It's a dramatic rise for 22-year-old Masaga, who was about to board a plane from Auckland to Samoa with the Junior All Blacks yesterday for the IRB Pacific Nations Cup tournament, when he got the All Blacks call-up.

"It's a terrible disappointment for Rudi to be injured before taking the field this season," All Blacks Coach Graham Henry said.

"It's the latest in a long list of injuries which we have had to deal with ahead of the Iveco Series campaign but is yet another challenge for the team ahead of what is going to be a huge Test match this weekend," he added.

The changed All Blacks team for the first Iveco Series Test against France is:

1. Tony Woodcock 2. Andrew Hore 3. Neemia Tialata 4. Brad Thorn 5. Isaac Ross 6. Kieran Read 7. Adam Thomson 8. Liam Messam 9. Jimmy Cowan 10. Stephen Donald 11. Josevata Rokocoko 12. Ma'a Nonu 13. Isaia Toeava 14. Cory Jane 15. Mils Muliaina - captain

Reserves:

16. Keven Mealamu 17. John Afoa 18. Bryn Evans 19. Tanerau Latimer 20. Piri Weepu 21. Luke McAlister 22. Lelia Masaga
