Waikato centre Save Tokula has pleaded guilty to a charge of a dangerous tackle at a New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) judicial hearing in Wellington today.
Tokula was cited for an alleged dangerous tackle on Wellington player David Smith, for which he received a yellow card, in the 23rd minute of the Air New Zealand Cup match between Waikato and Wellington, at Waikato Stadium on Friday 18 September 2009.
Tokula appeared before NZRU Judicial Officer Peter Hobbs at the NZRU offices in Wellington today and was supported by Waikato Chief Executive Officer Graham Bowen.
On the issue of penalty, having considered all the evidence including the DVD footage and the referee's reasons for issuing the yellow card, Mr Hobbs decided that the yellow card was a sufficient penalty and no further action was required.
Meanwhile, Thames Valley No 8 Mo Fusitua appeared before Bruce Squire QC yesterday after receiving two yellow cards (and subsequent red card) in the Thames Valley match against North Otago on Saturday 19 September.
Any player that receives two yellow cards or a red card faces an automatic judicial hearing.
After reviewing all the evidence, Mr Squire felt that the red card was sufficient for the nature of the offending and no further sanction was imposed.
