Lee Through To Quarterfinals At US Amateur

22 August 2008 - World No 1 ranked amateur, Danny Lee produced some sublime golf to march through to the quarterfinals of the US Amateur Championships in North Carolina today.

Lee, 18, crushed both opponents winning 5 and 4 in the morning and 7 and 6 in the afternoon round at Pinehurst.

The Rotorua player bagged six birdies without blemish in beating Jacob Burger 5 and 4 and then beat another American Connor McHenry 7 and 6 in the afternoon.

New Zealand Golf High Performance Manager, David Graham, on hand at Pinehurst to watch Lee, said his golf was of a remarkable level.

"It is the best ball striking that I have ever seen from Danny," Graham said. "He is hitting is very pure and both his clubbing and accuracy tee to green is remarkable."

He was 4-up after nine holes against Burger and finished with six birdies without a mistake when the match finished at the 14th. In the Afternoon he had four birdies without a dropped shot when his match finished at the 12th holes.

Tomorrow he meets another American Morgan Hoffman in the quarterfinal.
